Bashō admitted that anyone could write equally impressive verse in haiku, but his true art came in participating in renku (linked Haiku verses).
He was inspired by the natural beauty of his native Japan. So, I offer several photos (specifically of Mt. Fujiyama) for your perusal and poetry, Bashō style.
Silent pagoda
sentinel of great mountain

Majestic beauty mirrored mountain reflected avian splendor |
Wings raised in honor homage to the mountain god nature's spirit shared |

ReplyDeleteThanks Pearl. It was great fun when it first ran and I missed the short form poetry and the discipline it requires. I do hope you will join me here and share in the fun.
ReplyDeleteWas great fun the first time around... still in limited Internet land - look forward to giving it another go round :) all the best ...
ReplyDeleteI couldn't get my pictures and text to work right so here is just the text. I'll try again later to add the pictures.

Picture 1
ReplyDeleteReaching toward heaven
five tiers... snow dusted mountain
rises higher still.
Picture 2
Mountain fills the shy
Swan harangues its avarice
That claims the lake, too.
Picture 3
Do swans know they fly
on airy currents but glide
on liquescent sky.
Basho in garden
ReplyDeleteever upright solid stone
phallus pointing down
no bashful in Basho
